Australia’s Renewables Landscape: A Strategic Investment Opportunity
Australia is accelerating its energy transition with ambitious clean energy targets and substantial public investment. International renewable energy firms should view Australia as both a market to serve and a manufacturing base to scale technologies for global supply chains.
Key Government Programs & Funding Streams
Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund – Applications now open
A centrepiece of federal clean tech support is the Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund. The program is administered by ARENA, offering up to A$1.5 billion to catalyse innovation in renewable energy technologies and low-emission solutions.
Why this matters to overseas investors
This initiative provides a powerful runway for companies with emerging tech and production plans in low-carbon products and materials — aligning investment with Australia’s broader energy transition and sovereign capability goals.
Grant funding will be available across three Priorities (the Priorities):
- $750 million to Green Metals including iron, steel, alumina and aluminium.
- Initial tranche of $200 million to Renewable Energy Technology Manufacturing (RETM) to enable development of technologies seeking to alleviate critical supply chain challenges facing the clean energy transition.
- $250 million to Low Carbon Liquid Fuels (LCLF) including sustainable aviation fuels and renewable diesel.
